DEADLOCKIs Deadlock free?
You cannot buy Deadlock, and Valve has not posted a price. That is not the same sentence as “Deadlock will be free forever.”
I looked at is_free and package_groups in the 24 October 2026 API payload. is_free was false and package_groups was an empty list, which matches a coming-soon page with nothing to purchase.
What the store actually shows
A coming-soon page with no package cannot charge you. Regional age ratings exist in the API (Brazil 14, Germany 16, Indonesia 18) while the public store page shows no single ESRB or PEGI rating. This page does not invent one global age rating.
If a site sells a “free download,” compare it with the empty package list before you click.
Questions
Why does Steam say it is not free?
is_free false means the store has not marked a free package. It does not mean a paid price exists.
How does Deadlock make money?
Valve has not published a business model for the launch. Do not treat cosmetic leaks as a store.
Do I pay for the playtest?
No. Access is an invite, not a purchase.
