Deadlock ranks explained
Deadlock has 11 ranks, Initiate to Eternus, each split into six subranks. Ranked returned on 30 July 2026. Valve says Beta Season 1 ends on Thursday 5 November 2026 at 2pm Pacific, and the next season starts immediately after.
Rules below come from Valve’s 30 July and 6 October 2026 posts unless a line says wiki or tracker. The distribution is a dated Tracklock snapshot, so expect it to drift day by day.

The 11 ranks, low to high
Obscurus is the uncalibrated label. Every rank above it has subranks I to VI. Valve says a match moves you about 250 rank points on average; the wiki says around 300. A subrank takes 1,000 points, and the last subrank before a new rank takes 2,000. Above Eternus I, the thresholds are percentiles that update daily.
| # | Rank | Badge material (wiki) | Share of ranked players |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Initiate | Brick | 12.70% |
| 2 | Seeker | Stone | 19.13% |
| 3 | Acolyte | Iron | 15.97% |
| 4 | Sentinel | Bronze | 12.41% |
| 5 | Mystic | Silver | 10.58% |
| 6 | Ritualist | Gold | 9.36% |
| 7 | Emissary | Platinum | 7.73% |
| 8 | Oracle | Diamond | 7.63% |
| 9 | Phantom | – | 2.90% |
| 10 | Ascendant | – | 1.11% |
| 11 | Eternus | – | 0.48% |
Rank distribution
The shares above are Tracklock’s Beta Season 1 distribution, captured on 29 October 2026 at 08:24 UTC. It counted 416,250 ranked players plus 109,976 still calibrating. The median player was Sentinel II, and about 4.5% were Phantom or higher.
Statlocker’s distribution shows nearly the same counts per subrank, which suggests both read the same match feed. Tracklock’s page header still showed the original end date of 8 October when we checked, so read its season dates with care.
Unlocking Ranked and calibration
These are Valve’s launch rules from 30 July 2026. They can change mid-season, so check the Play menu if something does not match.
- Win 60 matches in Standard (unranked) mode.
- Unlock at least three heroes for Ranked. A hero needs 15 Standard wins first.
- Each season starts with eight calibration matches, played solo, after a soft reset of your previous rank.
- Calibration can place you no higher than Oracle VI.
- Queue solo or as a duo. Duo partners must be within one rank, or within three subranks in Eternus.
Rank points, streaks and loss protection
Valve gives loss protection of five games at a full-rank boundary and two games at a subrank boundary. The wiki adds a win-streak bonus that starts at the third straight win with +70 points, grows by 20 per win, and caps at +130 after six wins.
Ranked bans three heroes per match, one more than Standard, and has a 30-second pre-match phase in which each player can change hero once and swap lanes (wiki). Eternus subranks are percentile cut-offs: I at 0%, II at 25%, III at 50%, IV at 70%, V at 85% and VI at 95%.
The wiki also lists a global leaderboard of the top 1,000 players in each region (NA, SA, EU, Asia and Oceania). You need 75 matches in the last 30 days to appear on it.
Season 1 end date and Season 2
Beta Season 1 started on 30 July 2026 and was first set to end on 7 October. On 6 October Valve pushed the end to Thursday 5 November 2026 at 2pm PDT, with the next season starting immediately after.
Valve wrote PDT, but US daylight saving ends on 1 November, so 5 November falls on PST. The wiki converts the end to 21:00 UTC. Trust the countdown in your client rather than a converted time.
Valve has not yet published the next season’s name, rules or end date. At launch it said future seasons would likely run longer, with splits in between and recency requirements on heroes played. Your highest rank stays in your rank history, and Valve says a hideout item will mark your season-high rank once the season is over.
